Rules introduced at the beginning of 2002 have given trade union representatives the right to attend management meetings of all companies, reported South China Morning Post. A partner lawyer in the Hong Kong office of Baker & McKenzie, Andreas Lauffs, said that under the new rule, management decisions taken without consulting staff representatives were illegal and could be challenged in court. He commented that this appeared to give trade union representatives the right of veto over management.
