United Parcel Service plans to invest $300 million in two Chinese aviation hubs in Shanghai and Shenzhen.
Dan Brutto, president of UPS International, an arm of the company said UPS will spend $125 million on the new hub in Shanghai, which will start operation in November 2008.
The company plans to increase its packing capacity to 17,000 units per hour at Shanghai Pudong International Airport by 2012. Through the airport, it provides 76 flights every week to other Chinese cities and international aviation hubs. Its Chinese strategic partner Yangtze River Express Airlines runs 24 flights every week for it over the country.
UPS will also invest $180 million in a new aviation hub in Shenzhen, South China, which will cover 89,000 square meters and be capable of handling 18,000 parcels per hour. The hub is expected to start service in 2010.
