Upturn in late summer railway traffic

China's railways handled 177.9m passengers
in July and August, a fall of 7.2m compared
with the same period last year. Experts
reported by Xinhua said the decline was a
lingering consequence of the psychological
impact of the Sars epidemic on the general
public. However, by late August passenger
numbers were up slightly on last year.
