The US has asked China to provide more information about a missile test on Monday, after claiming Beijing did not give Washington advance notice, the South China Morning Post reported. The so-called mid-level test, which saw a missile destroy an incoming warhead while it was still in space, was detected by the US Defence Department. China has now become only the second nation after the US to successfully test a mid-level anti-missile system. There had been speculations that the missile test is a power-play by Beijing in the wake of the controversial decision by the US to sell arms to Taiwan, but Andrew Yang Nien-dzu, from the Chinese Council of Advanced Policy Studies, based in Taiwan, said these are unfounded, pointing out that Washington and Beijing are not likely to want to jeopardize their relationship. "The overall interests between the two far outweigh their differences on this issue [Taiwan]," he said.
