NDRC scraps restrictions on foreign-made wind turbines

China’s restrictions on the use of foreign-made parts in wind turbines have been scrapped as the country seeks to ramp up green-tech production and fulfill its commitment to green energy, AFP reported. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) will no longer require wind farms in China to source at least 70% of turbine parts from Chinese manufacturers. State-media reported that the decision will "help the development of the country’s wind power industry" and establish "an open market of rational competition." The cap was introduced in 2005 to boost Chinese manufacturers in an industry that had previously been dominated by foreign companies. When the restriction was introduced foreign manufacturers saw their market share fall from 75% to 25% in just three years.
