Plans by three leading US magazines to enter the Chinese market have received a setback, South China Morning Post said. Harvard Business Review has published five editions of its Chinese version since October last year, while Forbes formed a partnership with a Hong Kong publishing firm and Newsweek wants to publish a Chinese language version, Newsweek Select, for the mainland market.
However, China Daily has published a statement by an official from the State Press and Publication Administration that all foreign publications have to acquire approval from the administration before they could be distributed in China and none of the three had submitted applications. In addition, Harvard Business Review was reported to have violated regulations by using a licence number assigned to a domestic publishing house.
