China is expanding its cyber-espionage efforts at such a rate that it is “straining the US capacity to respond,” according to a report released by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, the Wall Street Journal reported. The report – produced by defense giant Northrop Grumman Corp on behalf of the bipartisan commission – included evidence of a US high-tech company being subjected to a carefully orchestrated cyber-spying campaign that originated in or came through China. The report didn’t name the company or say specifically who was behind the attack but it said the “professional quality” of the operation suggested government involvement. Much of the report is devoted to describing the growing cyberspace ambitions and ability of China’s military. A spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington dismissed the report as “a product of Cold War mentality.”
