United States Secretary of State John Kerry has called on Beijing to end “business as usual” with ally North Korea following the latter’s announcement it had carried out a nuclear test on Wednesday, Reuters reported. Kerry said he had told China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi that its approach to North Korea had not succeeded. The test, claimed by Pyongyang to have been of a hydrogen bomb, angered both Beijing and Washington, neither of which were given prior notice. Data compiled by South Korea’s International Trade Association showed China bought 90% of North Korea’s exports in 2013.
