So here we are, ladies and gentlemen, at the fag end of 2016. And good riddance, many will say. The next year promises to be just as momentous as this, but in what ways and with what consequences, who can say. The only piece of information we will reference today is that the official band for trading the RMB has just strayed over into the 7s, which may well be a harbinger. But really, this is a Friday to take a breath and think pleasant thoughts. The year is over, we cannot predict or influence the events ahead of us.
