Retailing giant Wal-Mart has apparently signed a deal involving wind power in an attempt to green its business. Speaking to reporters at the firm’s “Sustainability Summit” in Beijing, Wal-Mart’s CEO Lee Scott let the cat out of the bag.
Scott was enumerating the different ways Wal-Mart has been a friend to the environment by bringing small groups of its stores in the US and UK to “zero waste” when he said, “We’ve done solar energy in California, we’ve done solar energy in Hawaii. We just signed a wind thing. Is that still secret?” he asked the other Wal-Mart execs sharing the stage with him.
“It’s still secret,” he said.
No details of the deal were provided, of course. But given Wal-Mart’s push to tout its environmental bona fides, we can likely expect a press release soon.
