Yamaha Motor has won nearly Yn1m in damages against a privately owned Chinese company, the first time a foreign vehicle maker has won a trademark case against a mainland firm. The world's second largest motorcycle manufacturer accused Tianjin Gangtian Group of producing and selling motorcycles bearing its trademarks without its authorisation.
Tianjin Higher People's Court ordered Gangtian to stop abusing Yamaha's trademarks and to issue an apology. However, the sum of Yn1m was far less than the Yn30m that Yamaha had originally sought.
