Beijing ranked 23rd out of 30 Chinese provinces and municipalities in terms of GDP growth so far this year.
The comparatively slow growth has been blamed on the slow pace of development in the high-tech and service sectors and on the residual effects of the SARS crisis.
Beijing's GDP for the first nine months of this year totaled RMB 246.2 billion, with a year-on-year growth rate of 10 percent, slightly higher than the growth rate recorded last year but still shy of the 11 percent target set for the capital in May.
