China Mobile has overtaken China Telecom as China's largest telecoms operator, according to figures from the Ministry of Information Industry.
Total revenue in 2002 for all operators grew 14 per cent year-on-year to Yn457.6bn, despite a 20 per cent fall in telecoms infrastructure spending. Revenues are expected to rise by 10.7 per cent in 2003, said the ministry, while infrastructure spending is predicted to fall slightly to Yn210bn.
