Great Wall Motor says it plans to build a plant in neighboring Russia, with the auto sector booming. China’s leading carmaker announced the construction of a full-cycle facility with an annual capacity of 50,000 units in a free economic zone in Yelabuga, Tatarstan. Great Wall Motor produced more than 200,000 vehicles last year, including sport utility vehicles, pickups and sedans. Russia’s car market last year was estimated at 1.84 million units by auditors Ernst & Young. Sales of new foreign cars rocketed 60% to 563,400 units.
