Jack Ma is the person behind Alibaba Group and thinks "small is beautiful." And, Jack Ma says, he should know: "I’m a small guy."
In fact, he is echoing the theme of Small Is Beautiful, a collection of essays by British economist E. F. Schumacher first published in 1973.
Ma was speaking on a panel and his message was that the future lies with "small, flexible, tailor-made" entrepreneurs whose businesses "not only create jobs, they create hope, create dreams, create innovations."
Ma expressed optimism over the growth of entrepreneurship in his native China. But he also warned that it’s time for China to take seriously the environmental challenges that accompany its furious growth.
According to the Financial Times, that’s why Alibaba gives 0.3% of its revenues to clean water and tree planting every year.
