Shenzhen clean-up

In an effort to tidy up the city's image, the Shenzhen government ordered a crackdown on saunas and brothels masquerading as guest houses. The city said it plans to inspect 2 million rented apartments by the end of the year. Mayor Li Hongzhong, blaming the sleaze on a badly regulated rental market, said transactions often bypass licensed property agents. The campaign continues a cleanup that has involved demolition of illegal structures and whole shantytowns.
