Taiwan exports to the mainland are increasingly heading north; Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces now absorb nearly 60% of island goods, according to government statistics. Investment from Taiwan also showed a similar shift north – 43.3% of 2004 inflows went to Jiangsu, while 29% and 8.5% went to Guangdong and Fujian provinces, respectively. Export flows from Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines are also increasingly targeting more northern provinces over traditional southern markets.
