Philip Morris International signed a licensing agreement on Wednesday with state-owned monopoly China National Tobacco to produce and distribute Marlboro cigarettes in China, the Wall Street Journal reported. Both sides also agreed to form a 50-50 joint venture based in Switzerland to market Chinese cigarettes abroad. Financial details were not available but production and sales were expected to begin in the first half of next year.
