Police have detained 37 people in Shandong province in connection with a scandal in which a mother and daughter are alleged to have illegally bought US$90 million worth of improperly stored vaccines for meningitis, rabies and other illnesses from traders and sold them to re-sellers across China, Reuters reported, citing state news agency Xinhua. China’s drug regulator on Tuesday identified nine vaccine wholesalers from six provinces suspected of filing fake reports of buyers’ identities. One of the three firms being investigated, Shandong Zhaoxin Bio-tech Co., has had a license revoked and been ordered to halt operations.
